A Summer Restaurant …

Pine creek Cookhouse is nestled at the base of the Elk Mountains and offers Alpine Gourmet food featuring wild game, fresh fish and local ingredients.  Not only will you enjoy the food, drinks, and amazing views but you will also enjoy getting there. During the summer you can choose to drive, hike or bike up to the Pine creek Cookhouse and enjoy beautiful views the entire way. Make sure you make a stop at Ashcroft Ghost Town which is about 5 minutes before you reach the cabin. During the fall, the foliage on Castle Creek Road will take your breath away!

A Great Hike…

Hiking in this area is amazing so it was hard to choose a favorite. I highly recommend West Maroon Pass which is a 12 mile hike if you take the entire trail to Crested Butte. The hike, led by a local naturalist, offers beautiful views of the Maroon Bells, Pyramid Peak, waterfalls, high mountain lakes and fields of wild flowers. Add a picnic lunch prepared by Viceroy’s culinary team and enjoy the view. If you are up for hiking the entire trail then the Viceroy is more than happy to arrange your transportation from Crested Butte back to the hotel. If you would like to enjoy all of the views but the 12 miles is too much then you can always hike just to the top of West Maroon Pass or Crater Lake!

Summer Must Do…

During the summer, if you are looking for an adventurous activity then you should try white water rafting. Trips are offered multiple times a day and the companies in the area offer anything from class I-IV/V. The class I-II rapids are perfect for families and beginner rafters. There are just enough rapids to make the trip exciting but also gives the chance to relax and enjoy the scenery in sections. Once you move up to trips like, Slaughterhouse or the Numbers you will enjoy continuous and exciting rapids for the entire length! These trips are great for adrenaline seekers. Make sure you talk with the concierge to get more information on the individual trips, times and pricing.

A Summer Concert…

Every summer Snowmass Village is the place to go for free live music. On Thursdays they set up a stage right on fanny hill (end of Snowmass Mall) and serve food and drinks from local restaurants. Another convenient and delicious option is to get a picnic basket meal that you can bring with you and enjoy on the hill while you rock out. The variety of music ranges from reggae, to classical jazz and artists like TAJ MAHAL TRIO, Steel Pulse, Xavier Rudd and Jes Crew. There is also a kid’s zone which makes these events great for families because the parents can relax and enjoy the show while the children use the bouncy house, hula hoops, and more

A Summer Restaurant…

Aspen is known for its amazing restaurants and each one has its own vibe. One of my favorites has to be Casa Tua. They are located right in the core of aspen at the base of Ajax Mountain and have a beautiful patio to eat on in the summer time. They offer a range of divine Italian dishes ranging from creamy pastas and meat cuts to fresh seafood and light salads. The Kampatchi Tartar is a must try! Not only is the food delicious but they have an extensive wine list to pair along with your meal and if you’re lucky the sommelier might even give you a tour of their beautiful wine cellar.

A Summer Concert…

Aspen Snowmass is known for its summer music events But Jazz Aspen Labor day experience definitely stands out amongst them all as the best event of the season. The Weekend long festival takes place in Town Park located just below the Snowmass village. Three days of great music, dancing, vendors and beautiful mountain scenery. The festival has pulled big names in the past like Stevie Wonder, No Doubt, Citizen Cope, Willie Nelson, Mumford and Sons, Neil Young and so many more. Whether you are coming just for the day or spending the weekend it is always guaranteed to be a great time!

A Great Hike…

Of all the numerous actives to do in the Valley in the summer time, hiking is by far the best if you ask me. There are so amazing hikes many to choose from you just cannot go wrong. My all time favorite and do able for most visitors is the Electric Pass Hike. The trail starts in the Castle Creek valley taking you first through groves of Aspens, up past beautiful Cathedral Lake, through a gorgeous field of wild flowers and finally steep switch backs up a scree field. If that last stretch doesn’t take your breath away, the views definitely will. You have a 360 degree view of all the peaks in the area along

A Summer Restaurant…

The areas of Aspen/Snowmass have a number of fantastic restaurant options, particularly in the summer season when many of them are able to open their outdoor patios.  My favorite particular spot in the summertime is a small little dive bar and restaurant with tons of history called the Woody Creek Tavern. This establishment was known as a favorite of the late Hunter S Thompson, who lived very nearby this quaint little restaurant nestled in by the roaring fork river.  Today you will still find many nods to the gonzo journalist in the photos and posters plastering the walls, but there are plenty of other reasons to visit this restaurant.  They serve a Mexican inspired menu that is best known for their tamales and blue agave margaritas.  They do not accept reservations or credit cards.

A Summer Concert…

There are so many great concerts and events that take place in the Aspen/Snowmass area throughout the summer season, but one in particular stands out for me, which is the Deaf Camp Benefit. At Deaf Camp Benefit, guests come from around the nation for some fun under the sun on the slopes of Snowmass. Great music, delicious food, and beautiful scenery add up to an amazing weekend one will never forget. Originally known as the Deaf Camp Picnic, this event was established in the 60’s with the help of John Denver, Jimmy Buffet, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and the likes to support the great things Aspen Camp does for Deaf and hard of hearing kids. Aspen Camp & Snowmass Tourism brought this legendary event back in 2013 and it has been a huge hit.  The event is completely free of charge although they do accept donations.  All proceeds from this event go to Aspen Camp, a 501(c)3 non-profit whose focus is on honoring the Deaf Community through education, experiences, and networking.  Past performers include Pimps of Joytime and The Motet.

A Great Hike…

There are literally hundreds of incredible hikes surrounding the Aspen/Snowmass region.  My favorite might just be the American Lake hike.  The trail head for this beautiful alpine lake is located in the Castle Creek Valley about a 25 or 30 minute drive from the hotel. This hike is approximately 3.2 miles in each direction and gains 2,000 feet of elevation. Allow Viceroy to provide you homemade energy pars or a picnic lunch to fuel your excursion. The trail rises steeply in the beginning, switch backing for about 1-1/2 miles through an Aspen grove before reaching spruce trees where the trail levels a bit. Continuing along, the trail will rise gently and approximately 1/2 mile before the lake, the trail crosses a rock slide area. The trail arrives near the lake's outlet.

Summer Must Do…

Play a round of golf at the Snowmass Club! We are lucky enough here at the Viceroy to be able to offer our guests the opportunity to play this beautiful and challenging course.  Designed by the award winning architect Jim Engh, this course offers majestic views, challenging landscapes, and sensitivity to the land and the sky above it.  Set up like a traditional Irish links course, the fairways twist and turn over the rolling hills of our Rocky Mountain landscape.  The fairways are sculpted, the greens are challenging, and the bunkers are downright frightening. This course isn’t one you’ll soon master, or forget.

A Summer Restaurant

If you enjoy craft beer in a beautiful setting…HOPS Culture is the place to be on a summer evening. HOPS Culture is an exciting new craft-beer focused restaurant\bar on Aspen's Hyman Mall. With over 200 domestic and imported beers (30 on tap) there is always something for everyone. As for the food: HOPS has an upscale American comfort food menu focused on grilled cheese sandwiches, mac and cheeses, fun shareable appetizers, gourmet salads and awesome soups. You will not be disappointed. With outdoor seating on the mall during the summer, it is one of my personal favorite spots in Aspen to end the day.

A Summer Concert

Aspen/Snowmass is engulfed in the Music Scene all summer long. From JazzAspen to free Thursday Night concerts in Snowmass Village, we are spoiled by big acts almost every week. My favorite venue has to be Belly Up. Not only is it one of the most intimate venues in the country, but Belly Up Aspen has over 300 live concerts a year and features huge musical talents such as: Widespread Panic, G. Love, The Flaming Lips, Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you like music, this is the place to see one of your favorite artists. Reserve your own table or get on down to the dance floor. Wherever you end up, you will feel like you’re a part of the show!

A Great Hike

The Rim Trail is an intermediate to moderate hike which is a local’s favorite right here in Snowmass. The trail is smooth, easy to follow and has gradual switchbacks perfect for anyone coming from sea level. Many choose to just hike to the Spiral (Yin-Yang) view point from the trailhead on Divide Road which is 2.6 miles round trip. During the summer months these switchbacks through beautiful fields of wildflowers and once you reach the top you will have an amazing view of Capitol Peak and Mt. Daly. Others will hike the entire trail which is 7.6 miles and offers incredible views of Snowmass and the down Valley Mountains the entire way. The Rim Trail is also popular for bikers and dog friendly! You can hire a yoga instruction to guide you through a peaceful flow at the top of the hike, contact the concierge for more information.

Summer Must Do

Enjoy panoramic views of the Elk Mountain Range and glimpses of the local wildlife during a Hot Air Balloon ride. The tour will take roughly three hours and will take off while the sun rises. All pilots have FAA licenses and over 20 years of experience. During the ride over the Elk range and once you land the pilots will go over the history of Aspen and provide lots great facts on ballooning.  Once you land you will be treated to a champagne brunch which includes items like fresh fruit, pastries and chocolate covered strawberries! This excursion is great for families as well as romantic getaways.
